I am very new to sprouting, only a few weeks, and am loving it.  I wasn't aware, however, when I ordered the Sunflower Seeds that they had to be grown in soil.  Instead, I decided to follow general sprouting instructions and some I found on line (advising after soaking, to refrigerate in water--which I've changed daily) and have gotten some sprouts.  But as I've been learning more about sprouting, I wonder if these are safe to eat?  Are the remaining shells safe to eat?  I haven't tried any yet.   I'm concerned, because I've let them grow/develop for a week, and perhapd they've gone past the nutritious point and into harmful results.  Or perhaps there was never a point where they were safe to eat?  I hope someone can help.  Thank you.

I grow mine in a FreshGreen Automatic Sprouter without soil. I takes approximately 7 days for them to grow up to 4" tall. I then rince them very well removing the leftover shell and eat everything else, roots included and so far have had no problems.
  Take care, Paul.

I hadn't heard of this.  Internet search has come up with few sources, but other names:  Fresh Life Automatic Sprouter and Sproutman's Automatic Sprouter that look/sound similar.  Can you recommend a source for FreshGreen Automatic Sprouter in the US?  Thank you for your reply.  You've given me encouragement to continue trying  to sprout sunflower seeds..

Here is a site that I found quickly http://www.discountjuicers.com/sproutercompare.html. I am pretty sure by the price that this company is in the United States. If you are serious about sprouting I would suggest getting the automatic sprouter with the second sprouting barrel. You may not sprout two barrels of sunflower sprouts, you may want to mix and match other sprouts as well. I have three automatic sprouters, two of them have two barrels and one has one barrel. All three sprouters run 24/7, 365 giving me lots of sprouts. Sometimes I have too many and I am able to give some away to a friend.

Good luck. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to ask.

        Take care, Paul.

Children’s poetry in the 20th century has a very unique flavor to it, having been developed and institutionalized by writers like Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein.
